Basil A. Sfreddo, 79, of Plainfield passed away August 13, 2010. He was born November 24, 1930 in Bicknell, IN. to the late August and Teresa (Antonini) Sfreddo. He received his BA and MA degrees from Indiana State University where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. He was a Korean War veteran. Basil was a high school baseball and basketball coach at Kansas, IL. from 1956-59, Plainfield High School from 1959-64 and George Washington High School from 1965 until retiring in 1995. He won a state basketball title in 1969 with the Washington Continentals. His memberships include the Indiana High School Basketball Hall of Fame Organization and Indiana State Board of Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He was the first president of the Indianapolis High School Basketball Coaches Association and an ambassador for the Indiana Coaches Association during a trip to Burundi, Africa. Basil was a member of the Plainfield Christian Church (800 Dan Jones Rd.) where a funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 17 at 11:00 am. Visitation will also be at the church on Monday, August 16 from 4:00 - 8:00 pm. Burial will be at Maple Hill Cemetery. Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Sfreddo; sons, Robert (Shonell) and David (Alison) Sfreddo; daughter, Susan (Ken) Schnepp; 7 grandchildren. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Francis Hospice or George Washington Community High School Athletic Fund.
