Vesta M. Smith

Vesta M. Smith, 102, of Plainfield, passed away July 5, 2010 in Plainfield Health Care. She was born September 13, 1907 in Elkart, IN. to the late George W. and Rosa (Yazel) Walker. She retired in 1966 after 30 years as a registered nurse. At one time she was the supervisor of surgery at Methodist Hospital. She was also a nurse for Drs. Ramsey and Pilcher in Indianapolis. She was a member of the Plainfield Christian Church. Funeral services will be Thursday, July 8th at 1:00 PM in Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, where friends may call from 11:00 AM until the time of service. Burial will be in Union Chapel Cemetery, Indianapolis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert C. Smith; brother, Ursa D. Walker; sister, Eitha P. Barkes; nephew, Dr. Jack Walker. Survivors include niece, Carolyn Rosemary; nephew Earl C. Barkes; step-daughter, Lavon Smith; 2 step grandsons and 2 step great grand daughters; several great nieces and nephews.
