Ruth R. Knannlein

Ruth R. (Johnson) Knannlein, 102, of Indianapolis passed away March 5, 2010. She was born April 27, 1907 in Carroll County, IN. to the late Jesse and Bessie Johnson. She was a music educator, having taught in Indiana schools for 35 years, including Indianapolis schools #'s 43 and 90. She graduated from Depauw University School of Music in 1931. She also had graduate training from Arthur Jordan School of Music, Johns Hopkins School of Education and Columbia University. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where for many years she directed the youth choirs. Ruth was a charter member of the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir as well as a member of Mu Phi Epsilon music sorority. She was devoted to her family and church and will be deeply missed. She was preceded in death by her husband, William J. Knannlein. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 23 at 11:00 am in Bethlehem Lutheran Church (526 E. 52nd St. Indianapolis). Survivors include a sister, Alice Hess of Palm Desert, CA. and many nieces and nephews.
