Eleanor G. Havens

Eleanor G. (Oldham) Havens passed away peacefully January 8, 2010 at her home in Brownsburg, IN. She was 92. She was preceded in death by her husband Winfred J. Havens, mother Ethel Milner Oldham and father Walter E. Oldham, as well as sisters Winifred Withrow and Frances Preusser, and brother Hugh Oldham. Her survivors include sons John H. Havens (Sue) of Punta Gorda, FL and Gary L. Havens (Lynda) of Indianapolis; granddaughter, Rebecca Havens; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Havens was a lifelong Hendricks County resident. She graduated from Clayton High School and attended Central Normal College in Danville. Along with a fellow teacher, she started the first kindergarten class at Avon Schools. She retired in 1976 from the Indiana Employment Security Division. She was a member of the Plainfield Christian Church, Cartersburg Order of Eastern Star, and was a charter member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority in Plainfield. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm on Friday, January 15 at Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield, with calling one hour before the service. Burial will be private at Clayton Cemetery.
