James Tony Madden, 81, of Plainfield, passed away Nov. 4, 2009. He was born March 1, 1928 to the late Roy and Dovie (Morris) Madden in Loveland. OH. He was a US Army veteran of WWII. He was a graduate of Eastern Kentucky Univ., and received his Master's degree from Butler Univ. He began his teaching career in a two room schoolhouse in Kentucky. In Indiana he taught in the Wayne Twp. Schools for 6 years, and later from 1960-1970 he was the principal at Northwood Elementary School in Mooresville. For the next 20 years he was the principal at Brentwood Elementary, Plainfield retiring in 1989. He was a member (50 year) of the Plainfield Masonic Lodge #653, the Scottish Rite and Murat Shrine. He was a past member of the Plainfield Baptist Church where he served as deacon and Sunday School teacher. He later became a member of Plainfield Christian Church where services will be held on Saturday Nov. 7 at 11:00 am. Visitation will also be in the church on Friday, Nov. 6 from 3:00 until 8:00 pm. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Plainfield. Memorial contributions may be made the Wheeler Mission. He is survived by a son, Gary (Angela) Madden; a daughter, Linda Rasner; two sisters, Frances Shepherd and Joyce Wright; and three grandchildren, Leah Rasner, Alison and Laura Madden. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen (Smith) Madden. Arrangements by Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield.
