James D. Manning Jr., 82, of Plainfield, passed away October 25, 2009. He was born December 28, 1926 to the late James D. Sr., and Nancy (Staggs) Manning. He was a US Army Air Corps veteran of WWII. He retired in 1986 after 44 years as a locomotive engineer from Conrail (formerly the New York Central Railroad) St Louis Division. He was a member of the Plainfield United Methodist Church, the Plainfield Masonic Lodge #653, Indianapolis Scottish Rite, Plainfield Order of the Eastern Star #414, Sahara Grotto (where he was past president of the Drum and Bugle Corps), American Legion #264 Grotto Post (Past Commander), and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. He is survived by his wife, Marylou (Ashinger) Manning; three sons, Steven, Kevin and Bryan Manning; a daughter, Karen Donaldson; 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Memorial services will be at 4:00 pm Sunday November 1, 2009 in the Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield where friends may call on Sunday from 2:00 pm until service time at 4:00 pm in the funeral home.
