Elizabeth "Betty" Mitchaner, 99, of Plainfield, passed away April 15, 2017. She was born in Belsprings, VA, on October 4, 1917 to the late Lonnie and Emma (Holt) Ferrell. The family moved to Indiana in 1924. She was a graduate of Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis. Betty, as most knew her, attended Central Business College and Comptometer School. She worked 12 years at the IRS, and retired from Bridgeport Brass after 21 years of service. Betty married Harold Lackey (now deceased), and they had two sons, Richard and Robert. Years later after Harold's death she married Elbert Mitchaner (also now deceased). Betty was a lifetime member of Lynhurst Baptist Church of Indianapolis. She was a 50 year member of Bridgeport Eastern Star #513. Betty loved to play the piano, knit, shop and enjoyed greatly family gatherings. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter and Clinton Ferrell and her first born son, Richard Lackey. Betty is survived by her second born son, Robert (Patti) Lackey and daughter-in-law, Judith Lackey-Bunnell. She had 6 grandchildren, Lisa (David) Alexander, Todd Lackey, Dawn Handlon, Shawn (Bill) Akers, Tamara Lackey and Debra (Gene) Voils; 3 step-grandchildren, Cathy (Tom) Warga, David (Becky) Schumann and Craig (Cara) Busch; 21 great grandchildren; 3 step great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews as well. All were hoping to celebrate her 100th birthday this coming October. She'll be having an even greater celebration with other family members who were awaiting her arrival in Heaven, along with their Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. Their greeting upon her arrival, "Welcome home, Betty, and well done!" Funeral services will be Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 1:00 pm in Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home where friends may call from 11:00 am until time of service at 1:00 pm. Entombment will be at West Ridge Park Cemetery (9295 West 21st Street, Indianapolis, IN).
