Jon D. Taylor, 81, of Plainfield, IN, left this earth March 9, 2017 surrounded by many of those he loved, and held most dear. Jon was born May 3, 1935 to Roy and Edith G. (Lyons) Taylor in Indianapolis, Indiana. He married Sarah Lee Eads September 13, 1957, who preceded him in death. Jon, a retired 38 year employee of Indiana Bell, was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. His joy in life came from his family and worshiping his Lord and Savior. He loved music and spent over 30 years of his life as song leader at Center Community Church in Plainfield, where he served as Sunday School teacher, layman preacher, and where he and Sarah taught their family about the love of God and about serving and community, through service in church and in local nursing homes. In his younger years he was known for his singing, having taken part in numerous weddings and funerals. Some of his favorite times came from the holidays and the arrival of all his children and grandchildren and the joy of having everyone under one roof, enjoying together. Family truly was his favorite hobby. Jon was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Edith Taylor, three sisters, Patricia Leath, Mary Jane Taylor, and June Moore; one brother, Mitch Taylor; his wife, Sarah Lee (Eads) Taylor; two sons, Neal Taylor and Timothy Taylor. Jon is survived by one son, Samuel D. (Sheila) Taylor; three daughters, Nancy R. (Wayne) McWhorter, Jennifer G. Taylor, Amy K. (Matt) Slayten and daughter in law, Candy Taylor; seven grandchildren, Andrew D. (Becca) Taylor, Alyssa N. McWhorter, Hannah R. (Craig) Thompson, Logan (Sarah) McWhorter, Marie A. Taylor, Dakota M. A. Huff and Sarah C. Taylor; three great-grandchildren, Brielynn and Kaiden Taylor and Taylor Thompson; and many special extended family members.
