Shirley Ann [Reitzel] Pace, 88, of Bloomington, formerly of Hendricks County, passed away at Garden Villa in Bloomington, Indiana on Sunday morning, January 1, 2017. She was born in Stilesville, Indiana, on March 23, 1928, to the late Albert and Clara [Richardson] Reitzel. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Stilesville High School in 1946. One semester before graduation she also began classes at Central Normal School in Danville, and completed an Associates Degree in 1947.Over the years she moved with her husband and children to Florida, Chicago, California, and back to Indiana. She worked at Stanford University Library for 10 years, DePauw University Library for 10 years, and as a Transporter for the Radiology Department at Danville Hospital for nearly 10 years. She retired and moved to Bloomington, Indiana where she dedicated herself to volunteer work for another decade. Throughout her life she loved being of service. She was also artistic, musical, adventurous, and talented with crafts. She loved painting, writing, sewing, knitting, doing woodwork, and playing piano. She loved to travel and her beautiful blue eyes saw many countries and oceans. She was known as "the flower lady" and was often seen tending her flowers, and watching the hummingbirds outside her beloved condo in Bloomington. She was a loving mother who created many wonderful experiences for her children. She is survived and will be missed by many: her daughter Lynn (Walt) Keller, four sons Mike Pace, Ron (Joyce) Pace, Andy (Faith) Pace, and Bob (Lise) Pace; seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; three sisters, Sharon Fruits, Rachel Moreland, Patricia Casteel, and her brother John Reitzel. She was preceded in death by a sister, Katherine Baumert, a brother, Richard Reitzel and a granddaughter, Jamie Pace. From her family, a very warm thank you to the incredibly loving, caring, professional staff at Garden Villa who cared for her the last four years of her life. You helped usher her on with the grace and dignity that was Shirley. Visitation will be Friday, January 6 from 4-8 p.m. at Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home in Plainfield, Indiana. Funeral will be Saturday, January 7 at 11:00 a.m., also at Hampton-Gentry. Burial will follow in Stilesville Cemetery.
