Gene V. Clement, 85, of Plainfield, passed away October 23, 2016 with his family by his side. He was born May 22, 1931 in Centralia, IL to the late Berthal and Opal Clement. In 1951 at age 19, he married Joyce L. Featherling and enlisted in the US Air Force. He completed his basic training in Texas and was stationed in South Carolina before being sent to Korea. After the Korean War, he was discharged from Pine Castle Air Force Base in Orlando, Fl and returned to Centralia with his wife, Joyce, to work for the Illinois Central Railroad. In 1958, they moved to Plainfield so Gene could pursue a career as an electrician. After several years as an electician, Gene started Clement Electric Company Inc. in 1965. It became a very successful and rewarding business in downtown Plainfield. After 38 years he retired in 1993. Upon retirement he enjoyed his time fishing, collecting antiques, traveling and spending time with family and friends. Funeral services will be Thursday, October 27, at 1:00 pm in Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, where friends may call from 11:00 am until service time. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. He was preceded in death by 2 grandsons. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Joyce Clement; sons, Terry (Nancy) and Eric Clement; daughter, Debra (Chuck) White, all of Plainfield; brother, Don Clement of Van Buren, Mo.; grandchildren, step grandchildren ,great grandchild and step great grandchild. In lieu flowers, contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
