Naomi Ruth Burnett

February 6, 1927 — July 7, 2009

Naomi Ruth Burnett, 82, was welcomed into heaven after being freed from her 14 year battle with Alzheimer's disease July 7, 2009. A Plainfield and Clayton resident for most of her life, she graduated from Eminence High School in 1945. Two years later, July 7, 1947, she married Robert A. Burnett. They shared 50 years together before his death in 1997. Naomi had worked as a cook at Clayton High School, an office manager at Davis Gas in Danville, and then in the late 1980's she joined her husband at the Plainfield Community School Corporation as part of the maintenance/janitorial staff at Brentwood Elementary School where she worked until 1992. Naomi was a woman of great faith and loved her Lord as she accepted Christ as her personal Savior in February 1949. She loved to sew, cook, and do gardening. She loved to teach Sunday School and along side her husband was involved in children's ministry at Plainfield Calvary Baptist Church, of which she was a member. She is survived by her children whom she loved and was so proud of; daughter, Sandra K. Burnett; son, Dr. Robert R. Burnett, (Colonel, US Air Force); daughter-in-law, Christy R. Burnett; grandson, Matthew R. Burnett; soon-to-be granddaughter, Melanie Ruth Burnett; and sister, Helen K. Craig, Martinsville, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Isa Shumaker and a sister, Dorothy E. Denney. The family is appreciative of the wonderful care provided by the staff at Sunrise in Carmel, IN for the past 11 years. Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm Monday July 13, 2009 at Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield where friends may call on Monday from 11:00 am until service time at 1:00 pm. Entombment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
