Mary Alice Bolen Slaton

Mary Alice Bolen Slaton passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2009, following a beautiful, full life of 85 years. She was the beloved wife of Amos Slaton, deceased, and an honored and loved mother, and a respected teacher of English. She is survived by 9 children, 17 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and a sister. Her surviving family includes her sons and daughters, Larry Slaton, Kathleen France, Danny Slaton , Sherry Alberding, Judy Smith, Jennifer Ellis, Mark Slaton, Marcia Flick, and Robert Slaton; her grandchildren, Derek Malone-France, Damon Slaton, Michelle France Eckman, Roger Flick, Stephanie Alberding, Cory Flick, Amy Alberding, Sasha Slaton, Ben Slaton, Jordan Flick, Matthew Smith, Chase Slaton, Dani Slaton, Andrew Slaton, Jonathan Slaton, Jessie Flick, and Ashley Smith; her great-grandchildren, Delaney Slaton, Ben Slaton, Isabella Flick, Charles Eckman, Adrianna Smith, Cole Flick, Claire Eckman; and her sister, Jacqueline Holecek. Her friends and family will remember her beautiful smile, her love for family and for life, her steadfast faith in God, and her kindness toward others. She was a great example for how to live one’s life, how to be a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a daughter, a sister, and a friend. She was a lovely Southern lady who also became a Midwestern professional, teaching at Plainfield High School and retiring from Shortridge High School. Mary was the daughter of John and Alice (Westbury) Bolen and was born in Orangeburg, SC, August 14, 1923. She attended Furman University and received her MS in Ed from Butler University. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Plainfield for over 50 years. Friends are invited to pay respects at Hampton Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield, on Monday, June 22, from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. Funeral services will be held in loving memory of her at First Baptist Church of Plainfield on Tuesday, June 23 at 10:30 am. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Plainfield Scholarship Fund, 1012 Stafford Road, Plainfield, IN 46168.
