James “Jim” H. Rugen, 83, of Plainfield, passed away on July 21, 2016. He was born November 15, 1932 to the late Frank and Sophia (Tagtmeier) Rugen in Evanston, IL. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Bradley University where he was a member of the swim team and “B” Club. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jorita (Scales) .He is also survived by his three children David (Kathryn) Rugen, Michael (Julie) Rugen and Sandra (Jeff) Ahnafield; a brother Paul (Betty) Rugen; a sister Frances Rugen; as well as six grandchildren Bradley, Courtney, Zachary, Alan (Alana), Austin and Alexander. He was preceded in death by a brother David (Virginia). After 36 years of service, he retired in 1999 as Officer-In-Charge of the Indianapolis office of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Food and Nutrition Service. He was previously employed by the Kroger Company and Lever Brothers. He was a member of St. Susanna Catholic Church in Plainfield and a past member of its Men’s Club, Board of Education and softball team. In addition, he coached both youth baseball and basketball. He also enjoyed fishing, traveling, and was a life-long Chicago Cubs and Michigan Wolverines fan. A visitation will be held Monday, July 25, 2016, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Hampton Gentry Funeral Home, 106 Shaw St., Plainfield, IN. A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, July 26, 2016, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at St. Susanna Catholic Church, 1210 E. Main St., Plainfield, IN.
