David Loren Hunt passed away in Plainfield, Indiana on Wednesday July 13th at the age of 88. Dave was born May 21, 1928 in Mooresville, Indiana, the third son of Paul L. and June Shields Hunt. Dave graduated from Mooresville High School where he played basketball and was one of the few students at that time who owned his own car. He was a lifelong member of the Eminence Masonic lodge #440.
On April 1, 1956 Dave married “The love of his life” Anita Thompson in Marion, Indiana. Life provided many struggles along the way, but, together they raised 8 children with much love and hard work. They were married 56 years until Anita’s death in 2012.
Dave owned his own automotive and transmission service with two locations in Indianapolis during the 1950’s. He became a vocational education teacher teaching automotive and engine repair in northern Indiana and later at the Indiana State Boys School in Plainfield. He retired as a teacher from the State of Indiana in 1993.
For seven years Dave and Anita enjoyed spending Indiana winters in Bradenton, Florida. Dave derived great enjoyment in attending yard sales, garage sales, flea markets and swap meets. He had several barns filled with his found treasures. He spent countless hours refurbishing old cars, trucks and tractors. He was very proud of his Model A Ford.
Dave maintained coin and stamp collections where he provided starter kit coin collections for many of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The thing Dave loved most was the 137 acres he and Anita purchased in Owen County in 1964. With time and hard work they cleared and maintained the land and built a new home there. Over the years the farm became a respite for Dave from the pressures of everyday life.
Dave liked talking to people. He would converse with strangers or friends. His favorite phrase was, “As I say.” He used it so often, it became his “trademark”.
