Alice Lucille Shafer

Alice Lucille Shafer, 97, of Mooresville (Hendricks County), passed away peacefully July 8, 2016. Lucille was born to Charles W. and Emma M. (Bridenbaugh) Walter on Tuesday, May 27, 1919 in Indianapolis, IN. She was married to Fred Robert Shafer on August 6, 1939. They were married 68 years. Lucille was the only one of 10 siblings to graduate high school. She graduated from Arsenal Tech in January 1937. She played basketball, softball (her team won city championship three times), and roller skated. Fred and Lucille were very active with Hazelwood Christian Church. Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, all 10 siblings, a son-in-law, Don Brock, and a grandson, Ray Brock. She is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Brock, Virginia (Bill) Singleton, and Mary (Ryan) Barker, and a son, David (Claudette) Shafer, 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Friday, July 15, 2016 in the Hazelwood Christian Church, 9947 County Road 0, Hazelwood, where friends may call at the church from 1:00 pm until service time at 2:00 pm. Burial will be in Center Valley Cemetery, Belleville. Arrangements by Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield. The family wishes to express their sincere thank you to the nurses and aides at Sugar Grove Memory Care and Kindred Hospice.
