Gertrude Farver

March 26, 1914 — March 19, 2016

Gertrude Helen Farver, died last Saturday one week to the day of her 102nd birthday. She is now with Jesus where she has longed to be for the last 15 years since becoming a resident at Manor Care-Prestwick, in Avon since 2001. Gertrude was a "little light" there knowing God's ways were not her ways that He had a purpose for keeping her on earth. She was born March 26, 1914 to the late Fred T. and Josephine Miller in Shelbyville, IN. Her calling as a single woman was to be a childcare provider and housekeeper for several families over the years. She married Lawrence Farver of Spencerville, OH when she was 48 and he was 68. They had a wonderful life together for 30 years before he died at the age of 99. While in Spencerville, she was a member of the Conant Road Baptist Church. Gertrude's gift was hospitality and their home was open to pastors and missionaries for fellowship, meals and lodging. Gertrude is survived by a brother, Arthur F. Miller; four nieces, Ruth (Mike) Cooper, Julia (Bill) Wacker, Helen Monroe, and Neena (Steve) Hubbard; and a nephew, Steve (Linda) Miller; and many great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence; a brother, Ralph Miller; two sisters, Marguerite Shephard and Emma Jene Benson; two nephews, Ralph and Gary Miller; and a niece, Betty Mattick. Funeral services will be at 12:30 pm on Monday, March 28, 2016 in the Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, where friends may call on Monday from 11:00 am until service time at 12:30 pm. Burial will be at the Hartford Independent Baptist Church Cemetery in Spencerville, OH on Tuesday, March 29 at 1:00 pm.
