John L. Bowen, 54, of Avon, passed away February 17, 2016. He was born April 7, 1961 to the late James and Lucy (Geraghty) Bowen in Greenville, OH. John started his career with Viavi Solutions back on November 25, 1985 as an electronic technician in Operations. Throughout the next 30 years he was promoted to positions of increased responsibility as Master Scheduler, Operations Department Supervisor, Forecasting and Flexibility Manager and a Product Line Manager. It is no wonder that John so loved Lighthouses as he was truly the "Lighthouse" for the past 30 years for the Indianapolis Viavi Facility. John was always there to show the way for others as they navigated the difficult waters of an ever changing business. When asked to describe John in one word, employees said, "kindhearted, even tempered, passionate, compassionate, confident, helpful, a gentle giant to name just a few. For the people that John supervised over the years, he has developed a climate that provided motivation, participation and opportunities for employee initiatives. No one can eve remember John raising his voice, he was absolutely a servant leader. he was respected throughout the organization by upper level management, peers and subordinates in all functions of the business. John displayed a strong personal commitment to his work, but also found time to enjoy life. We all know of John's love for woodworking and his great love of beer. There is an adage that says that everyone is replaceable in the workforce, this is not true of John. This amazing man can never be replaced, and he will never be forgotten. John is survived by his wife, Charlene K. (Mallette) Bowen; and a brother, Darryl (Jo Ann) Bowen. He was preceded in death by his sister, Cheryl Bingham. Memorial services will be on Friday, February 26, 2016 at 2:00 pm in the Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield, where friends may call on Friday from 11:00 am until service time at 2:00 pm.
