Ethel Mae Hughes

Ethel Mae Hughes, 88, Plainfield, passed away August 29, in Millers Merry Manor. She was born in Montgomery County on April 10, 1927 to the late James Virgil and Lucile (Ferguson) Sutherlin. Ethel Mae graduated from Roachdale High School. She married Harold L. Hughes in Newport, Arkansas on August 4, 1947. Ethel Mae worked as a secretary for American States Insurance from 1947-1951 and Allisons as a secretary from 1952-1956. She was a Cub Scout leader, Camp Fire Girl leader and loved the outdoors, gardening, camping and reading. Ethel Mae was a member of Center Community Church in Plainfield. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold Hughes Jr., 6 siblings, 2 nieces and 2 nephews. Funeral services will be Friday, September 4, 2015 at 11:00 am in Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home where friends may call on Thursday, September 3, from 4:00 until 8:00 pm. Survivors include son, David Hughes of Brownsburg; daughters, Diane (Hughes) Gorsline of Indianapolis and Daphne of Hendricks County; grandson, Loren Gorsline. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery, Cartersburg. Contributions may be made to Alzheimers Association or Center Community Church.
