Nila A. Vanarsdall

Nila A. (Barnett) Bottoms Vanarsdall, 89, of Plainfield, passed away January 20, 2009. She was born September 15, 1919 to the late John F. and Retta Mae (Cron) Barnett in Indianapolis, IN. During the war and after she worked at RCA in Indianapolis. From 1955-1960 she worked as a nurses aide at Methodist Hospital. From 1960 until her retirement she became the ward secretary at Methodist Hospital. She was a member of the Eastern Star Lynhurst Chapter #505. Among her accomplishments was her award winning quilts and china dolls that she made by hand. Nila is survived by a daughter, Wanda L. (Lou) Petty; 3 grandchildren, Cindy and Bret Petty and Leigh Ann Gibbs; and 4 great grandchildren, Graham and Cole Petty, Michael and Joseph Gibbs. She was preceded in death by her two husbands, Harvey Bottoms and James Vanarsdall. Graveside services will be held at Floral Park Cemetery, Indpls at 1:00 pm Friday January 23. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 pm Thursday January 22 at Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
