Francis Willard (Jim) Gibbs

Francis Willard (Jim) Gibbs, 91, of Plainfield, IN. passed away January 18, 2009. He was born in Plainfield, IN. on August 12, 1917 to the late Wm. Frank and Esther Gibbs. He was one of nine children. He was married to Ellajean Harlan on December 10, 1939. They shared their lives together for 69 years and had 7 children. Jim grew up in Cartersburg and was a farmer most of his life. He also attended auctioneering school in Iowa. He sold farm machinery until eventually purchasing the John Deere dealership in Mooresville. His memberships include the Martinsville chapter of Gideons and the Boy Scouts of America where he was a scout master while living in Paris, IL. Jim enjoyed fishing and cooking outdoors. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 20 at 6:00 pm in Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, where friends may call from 4:00 pm until the time of service. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery, Cartersburg, IN. Survivors include his wife, Ellajean Gibbs; children, Francis Jean Daum, Diana Kay Barkley, Judy A. Tallent, Jay H.Gibbs, Terry L. Wright, Dennis D. Gibbs and Richard Allen Gibbs; brothers, Jack and Frank Gibbs Jr.; sisters, Helen Ellis and Dorothy Gibbs; 12 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Contributions may be made to the Foundation for Hendricks County Parks.
