Raymond E. Andrews Jr.

Raymond E. Andrews Jr., 80, of Plainfield, passed away February 8, 2015. He was born May 14, 1934 to the late Raymond E. "Van", and Alice H. (Boyce) Andrews in Indianapolis, IN. He was a 1951 graduate of Plainfield High School. He graduated from Indiana University, Bloomington in 1955 majoring in Business Administration and minoring in Speech. He was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He worked at the Indiana State Budget Director's Office for one year. He worked with the Andrews Construction Firm from 1956-7. In 1956 he married Rachel M. Clark. He served in the US Army Infantry Division, General Corps of Engineers in Germany from 1957-59. He was a realtor and developer and created the Andrews Agency Real Estate firm in 1959. He also was former owner of the Havens Insurance Co., and managed the Plainfield License Branch. As a civic leader Raymond was a member of many organizations, including the following: Young Republican Chairman of Hendricks County in 1962; president of the Plainfield Young Republicans; built and opened the ASA Business Building where he was president in 1967; Plainfield Chamber of Commerce and Board of Directors President in 1969; awarded the State of Indiana Council of the Sagamore of the Wabash twice in 1978 from Governor Bowen and in 1984 from Governor Orr; 1978-1986 he served four terms as Hendricks County Republican Chairman; Indiana State Delegate, Republican National Convention, Dallas TX, 1984; invited to the Inauguration of President-Elect Ronald Reagan; awarded Counsel to the Attorney General, Linley E. Pearson in 1987; as County Commissioner he brought President Ronald Reagan to the Hendricks County Courthouse on July 18, 1987; Chairman of the Hendricks County Republican Party; and was elected Hendricks County Commissioner in 1987. Other long-term and notable memberships throughout his life include the Plainfield Christian Church, Plainfield Masonic Lodge F&AM #653, the Scottish Rite, Indianapolis Shrine, Plainfield Elks Lodge, Hendricks County Board of Realtors and Board of Directors, Honor Society Member of the Indiana Association of Realtors, Inc., and Real Estate Broker from 1955 to present. Raymond is survived by his wife, Rachel M. Andrews; a son, Kevin (Adriana) Andrews; two daughters, Venetia Faulkenberg and Christi Crimmins (former husband Derek); 7 grandchildren, Lindsay and Ross Faulkenberg, Josh (Lindsey) and Chad Andrews, Coleson Ray and Carson Ray Crimmins, and Jack Basson; and 1 great grandson, Autry James Andrews. He was preceded in death by an great grandson, Joshua Ray Andrews Jr. Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 14, 2015 in the Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield, where friends may call on Saturday from 11:00 am until service time at 2:00 pm. Burial with military honors will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Plainfield. Memorial contributions may be made to either Homes for Wounded Warrior Program, P.O.
