Mildred L. Newby

Mildred L. Newby, 94, of Plainfield, passed away November 14, 2014. She was born November 8, 1920 to the late Aldus W. and Edna (Atkins) Phillips in Amo, IN. She was a homemaker. She was married to Maurice E. Newby for over 44 years. He preceded her in death on Oct. 16, 1984. When Maurice was still living he owned his own airplane and he and Mildred would travel throughout the Midwest. Mildred has traveled to all 50 states and various countries including most of the European countries, Mexico, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. She was a member of the Amo Friends Meeting. Mildred served as past president and an officer of the Hendricks County Economics Club, and past member of the State Home Economics Association and Choir, as well as the choir and book club at Grace United Church in Venice, FL. She was also a member of the band's flag team at Indiana State University. She is survived by a son, Allan (Darlene) Newby; a daughter, Carolyn (Ron) Ward; 5 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm on Monday, November 17, 2014 in the Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, where friends may call on Monday from 11:00 am until service time at 1:00 pm. Burial will be in Amo Cemetery.
