Carolyn Anne Gabel Turner, 85, of Plainfield, passed away on Monday, September 15, 2014. Carolyn was the daughter of Albert and Ruby Rinkard Gabel. She was a graduate of Avon High School and was a life-long resident of Washington Township. She and her late husband Dean F. were married for 59 years and were farmers on Dan Jones Road where they raised dairy cows, pigs and crops. Carolyn was instrumental in beginning the first Avon kindergarten and the Hendricks County Meals on Wheels program.. She was a past president of the Hendricks County Extension Board, the Hendricks County Extension Homemakers, Avon Home Ec. Club, Plainfield Woman's, the Hendricks County Hospital Guild and the Plainfield Quaker Homebuilders. Carolyn was also a Hendricks County Precinct Committee Person and was the recipient of the Avon Citizen of the Year for 2008 and the Avon Alumnus of the Year in 2011. Carolyn and Dean were both very much involved with the Hendricks County 4-H Fair and the Indiana State Fair. Carolyn was a life-time member of the Plainfield Friends Meeting where she and Dean were married in 1950. She also served as the Recording Clerk for the church. Carolyn is survived by her 3 children, Cynthia (Roy) Simmons , Dean "Rocky" (Cindy) Turner Jr., and LuAnne Turner. She also has 3 grandchildren, Adriane Turner, Ryan (Melissa) Simmons , and Gabel Turner, and one great granddaughter, Amelia Anne Simmons. Visitation will be held at Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home in Plainfield from 3:00 to 7:00 pm on Sunday, September 21, 2014. A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 22 at 11:00 am at the Plainfield Friends Meeting. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Plainfield. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Plainfield Friends Meeting.
