John Fred Schooler, 91, of Indianapolis, passed away September 1, 2014. He was born May 5, 1923 to the late John and Janie (Beeler) Schooler in Valley Creek, TN. He was an US Army veteran of WWII, European Theatre, where he was part of the Nomandy Invasion (Omaha Beech), the battles at Fleece Gap and St. Lo, and the Battle of the Bulge, and many other battles inbetween the two. He also earned the distinction as and expert marksman. He worked at Link-Belt as a machinist/foreman for 32 years retiring in 1985. John is survived by a son, John "Rick" (Cindy) Schooler; two daughters, Joan E. (Roger) Ridenour and Donna Simmons; a brother, Vic Schooler; 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth (Benge) Schooler. He was an over 60 year member, past Chairman of the Deacon Board, Trustee and Sunday School Teacher at the Westview Baptist Church, 2025 Westview Dr. (corner of Belmont and Morris St.) Indianapolis, where services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 6, 2014 and where friends may call at the church on Friday September 5 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. Interment will be in West Ridge Park Cemetery, Indianapolis. Memorial contributions may be made to the church. Arrangements by Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield.
