Sara Jane Ryan

Sara Jane Kellum Ryan passed away June 19, 2014 at her home in Plainfield, IN. She was born March 14, 1941 to the late James and Roberta Jones Kellum of Camby, IN. Sara was a graduate of Decatur Central High School and Indiana University. She married Larry D. Ryan, D.D.S. on January 1, 1961. She helped in the dental office and as a homemaker until she taught 3rd grade for twenty years at Northwood Elementary School in Mooresville, retiring in 2001. Sara fulfilled 3 terms as a Trustee of Earlham College in 2013. Sara was a member of P.E.O. Sisterhood, Book Lovers Club of Decatur Township, and Plainfield Friends (Quaker) Meeting. She was a 4-H leader, enjoyed I.U. basketball, hosting friends and family at their two-story brick farmhouse in Camby. Visitation will be Sunday, June 22, from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home in Plainfield, 106 Shaw Street. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 23, at Plainfield Friends Meetinghouse, located at 105 S. East Street. Burial will be in Fairfield Friends Cemetery, Camby. Sara is survived by her devoted husband, Larry, of 53 years; son, Dr. Gregory A. (Diane) Ryan; daughters, Luann E. (James) Heald, and Melissa J. (Jerald) Hackett; sisters, Mary Ann Cottrell and Susan Kellum; grandchildren, Stuart and Grant Ryan, Andrew, Morgan, and Natalie Heald, Raegan and Sadie Hackett.
