Melvin V. Swager, 82, of Plainfield, passed away January 13, 2014. He was born June 3, 1931 to the late Vern and Dorothy (Stamper) Swager in Kansas City, MO. He was a US Navy veteran of the Korean War. He worked as a project engineer for Naval Avionics for 32 years retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Belleville Masonic Lodge # 65 and the Speedway Moose Lodge #500. Melvin is survived by two sons, Richard B. (Tammy) and Randall D. (Karla Franklin) Swager; a daughter, Donna L. (Mitchell Thacker Jr.) Gaither; a special companion, Virginia Hurt; 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara D. (Reeves) Swager. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Friday, January 17, 2014 in the Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield, where friends may call on Thursday January 16 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. Entombment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Plainfield.
