James Gordon Baer, age 87 years old passed away at his home in Bedford, Indiana on November, 18, 2013. He was born on December 3, 1925 in Bedford, Indiana to Carl Robert Baer and Dorothy Bennett Baer. He was their third child. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings, Jeanne Baer Owens and Robert Baer. He was also preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn Elrod Baer in 1997. They were married for fifty years. Jim then married, Anna Mae Dorsett Baer in 1999. She survives.
He is also survived by his son, Jeffrey Baer and his wife Sharon Baer of Plainfield, Indiana and son Joseph and wife Barba Baer of Bloomington, Indiana and grandchildren, Jacob, Julia, and Joshua Baer. Also surviving are Anna Mae’s children which Jim fondly referred to as his own. Daughter, LeeAnna and husband Mike Trueblood and granddaughter Lori and husband Trevor Rynders, and great grandchildren, Kaylee, Emmi, Chase and Trace Rynders of Bedford, Indiana.
Jim was not only proud of his family but also of his committed service as an employee of Public Service Indiana (now Duke Energy) from which he retired in 1988 after forty years of service. He was also a proud veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, where he served active duty in World War ll.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bedford and had served as a deacon in the past. Jim loved life and spending time with family.
He will be missed and his memory and values long cherished by those who knew him. Services will be on Thursday, November 21, at 2pm at the Chapel in Maple Hill Cemetery in Plainfield, Indiana. Calling will be from 1 pm to 2pm prior to the service. Arrangements entrusted to Hampton Gentry Funeral Home in Plainfield, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made in Jim’s memory to the First Baptist Church of Bedford Indiana.
