John M. Doran, 91, of Indianapolis, passed away January 9, 2013. He was born in Indianapolis on September 25, 1921 to the late Harry W. and Mary Angeline (Hunt) Doran. John was a graduate of Decatur Central High School and attended Purdue University. During WWII he worked as a P-51 aircraft engine test technician at Allison Engine where he met his wife of 68 years, Helen Marie (Mitchell) Doran. He later worked as an auto mechanic as well as automobile salesman at Cadillac and Buick dealers in Indianapolis. He was a fan of Purdue athletic teams as well as the Colts. He is survived by his loving wife; a son, Michael (Sharon); 3 grandchildren, Tracy (Tom) Beaumont, Brett (Shawna) Doran, and Ryan (Ginny) Doran; 8 great grandchildren, Lauren and Ethan Beaumont, Alyssa, Alaina, and Henry Doran, Kylie, and Maya Beaumont and Bennett Doran; and twin sister Mary Palmer. John enjoyed sharing his life also with his nieces Susie (Scott) Apple and Cathy (Travis) McCullars and nephew Joe (Wynn) Mitchell. He was preceded in death by his sisters Jewell Lieby and Harriet Catherine Sprinkle. He was a lifelong member of Center Community Church, 5938 S. CR 700E in Plainfield where he enjoyed sharing an occasional song with the congregation. A memorial service will be held at the church on Saturday January 12, 2013 at 11:00 am followed by a lunch at the church.
