Aurel Mailath, 97, of Plainfield, passed away December 1, 2012. He was born November 3, 1915 to the late John and Elena (Nan) Mailath in Gary, IN. He was a graduate of Froebel HS, and attended Gary College and Purdue University. Aurel worked in a family owned beverage bottling/distribution business, and also worked 37 years at US Steel in Gary before retiring in 1984. After retiring he moved to Crown Point and then to Plainfield. He married Margaret Guba on June 25, 1938. He is survived by two daughters, Norma Jean (Jon) Hoffman and Margaret Aurelia (Paul) Wilson; a brother, Dan Mailath; 4 grandchildren, Paul James (Jennifer) Wilson; Kristina Louise (Larry) Peach; John Scott (Amanda) Hoffman and Thomas Richard (Krista) Hoffman; and 7 great grandchildren, Brock Hendrix, Luke and Audrey Hoffman, Addisyn and Olive Hoffman and Johnathon and Matthew Peach. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Mailath, two brothers, John and George and sisters, Helen and Cornelia. Aurel was a loving husband and father who enjoyed being with his family. He was an avid chess player, enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles and gardening. Memorial services will be at 1:00 pm Saturday December 8, 2012 in the Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield, where friends may call on Saturday from 12 noon until service time at 1:00 pm.
