Leah L. Abrams, 74, of Plainfield, passed away October 17, 2012 after a brief battle with cancer. She was born December 1, 1937 to the late Saul and Elvina Mindling in Watertown, OH. Leah was an educator whose mantra in life was to help people be more than they thought they could be. She was a language graduate of Ohio University and Butler University. Leah was an English and German teacher at Speedway High School for forty years where she was named Teacher of the Year on several occasions. Upon retirement she joined the Indianapolis Symphony Association (West Group) bringing the same energy and commitment to the cause of quality music in the larger community. In 2009 she was named "West Group Volunteer of the Year" for her Chair services. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, James Abrams. She is survived by her brother and his wife, Charles and Maxine Mindling and numerous cousins. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday October 27, 2012 in the Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield where friends may call one hour prior to services on Saturday. Inurnment was at Field of Valor at Crown Hill Cemetery.
