Katherine Aletha Smock

December 29, 1917 — September 21, 2012

Katherine Aletha Smock, 94, of Avon, passed away on September 21, 2012 at Park Square Manor in Avon where she lived since 2001. She was born December 29, 1917 to the late Herman and Ruth (Rader) Trinkle in Elnora, IN. After graduating from high school, she moved to Indianapolis and attended the Lane Business School. She then worked as a social worker for the State of Indiana. In 1938 she married Sidney O. Smock. While Mr. Smock was in WWII, she remained at home to raise her two daughters. In 1951, they moved to Plainfield. Katherine was a 60 year member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, the Plainfield Elks, and the Brown County and Naples Country Clubs. She was an avid card player until her 94th year. What she held most dear were her children and family. She was preceded in death by her husband and daughter, Linda Smock Daum. Surviving are her daughter, Judy Smock Whiteleather; five grandchildren, Julie Whiteleather Lowe, Kris Whiteleather Peters, Douglas, Mark and Michael Daum; sons-in-law Robert Daum and John Whiteleather; and 12 great grandchildren. A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, September 30th from 2:00-4:00 pm at Park Square Manor at the corner of 10th and St. Rd. 267 in Avon. Burial was at Maple Hill Cemetery, Plainfield. Memorials may be made to the Riley Hospital for Children.
