Laverne H. Barnes

Laverne H. Barnes, 82, of Clayton, went to be with the Lord August 10, 2012. She was born October 8, 1929 to the late Ernest and Belle (Hatchell) Hill in Harrodsburg, KY. She graduated from Clayton High School in 1947. Laverne is survived by her four children, John S. (Jan) Barnes of Bloomington, Cathy L. Ulstad of Ft. Dodge, IA, Michael P. Barnes of Cartersburg and Tom J. (Karen) Barnes of Minden, NE; 9 grandchildren, Jennifer (Jim) Flick, Melissa (David) Lycan, Derek, Dustin, Darrin, Matthew, Meagan and Jeff Barnes, and Julia (Jeremy) Duke; and 4 great grandchildren, Austin and Collin Flick, Avery Barnes and Blaire Lycan. She was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Barnes and a son-in-law, Ron Ulstad. She served as a den mother for each of her three sons while they were active in the Cub Scouts, and also served many positions in the Hendricks County Democratic Party. Laverne was a very active 60 year member in the Belleville United Methodist Church (5616 S. Morgan St.) where services will be held for her on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at 10:00 am. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 pm Monday, August 13 in the Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield. Burial will be in Clayton Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the church or the Parkinson's Awareness Association.
