Thomas Earl Utterback "Pops" Loving Father and Great Friend. Veteran, Pilot, Artist, Tradesman 2/16/1937 - 4/7/2012 Born: Linton, IN. Died: Indianapolis at the VA Medical Center. Preceded by his dear parents William Earl and Cornelia Utterback (Mills) and sister Jennilee. Survived by his loving sister Carol, proud sons Allen, Thomas, and Jon Utterback; cherished granddaughters Lauren, Olivia, Avery, Ava, Sylvia, and Audrey Utterback; and his precious great-grandchildren Reese Utterback and Gunner Tomey.
1955 Graduate of Linton-Stockton High School of Linton, IN where he was active in athletics. Volunteered for combat service to his nation during the Vietnam War as a Navy Seabee deployed with the Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 128 at Da Nang (1967-1968). Later proudly served with and retired from the Kentucky Army National Guard as an Army Aviator flying the UH-1 (Iroquois) and OH-58 (Kiowa) helicopters. Performed for many years as a professional (American Federation of Musicians Local 3 Indianapolis) singer/musician "Tommy Earl" in small group combos beginning in country and rock then on to American popular music and jazz as leader of the Tommy Earl Trio. Also performed during his tour in Vietnam. Retired Journeyman Steamfitter-Pipefitter of the United Association Local 440 Union Indianapolis. Private then Commercial/Instrument fixed-wing pilot enjoying many happy years as a member of the Midwest Navioneers Chapter of the American Navion Society and then the Hendricks County (Indiana) Chapter of the Experimental Aviation Association. Celebration of Life open house Saturday April 14 from 5 to 8pm at Saratoga Crossing, 4200 Stillwater Blvd, Plainfield IN. No showing or funeral services will occur. Military honors and burial are planned to take place at the New Albany National Cemetery at a date To Be Determined.
