Delbert B. Simmons, 95, of Plainfield, loving husband and father, went to be with his Lord Friday, March 30, 2012. He was born January 21, 1917 in Hazelwood, IN. He was a 1935 graduate of Clayton High School. He served in WW II with the Navy Seabees, unit CBNU 620 on Iwo Jima. He went to St. Louis Welding School, and was a member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 440 for 45 years retiring in 1980. He was a member of the Plainfield Christian Church. Delbert is survived by wife of 74 years, Ruth Ellen (Johnson) Simmons. He is also survived by a son, Mervin (Mary Ann) Simmons; two daughters, Charlotte Ann (Dan) Johnsen and Annice Carol (Darrell) Wright; a sister, Lucille Smith; 6 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Doris (Sawyer) Kinney and step-father, Marvin Kinney. Delbert said there were only two things he could not weld: a broken heart and the crack of dawn. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am Wednesday, April 4, 2012 in the Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield, where friends may call on Tuesday April 3 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. Burial, Center Valley Cemetery, Belleville.
