Henrietta L. Shoemaker

Henrietta L. (Poland) Shoemaker, 99, of Indianapolis, went home to her eternal rest on March 17, 2012. She had been a resident in Irvington since 1951. She was born July 30, 1912 to the late Ralph and Mary (Newman) Poland in Bridgeport, IN. She was preceded in death by her sister, Mildred Lewis on Sept.26, 1996, and her husband, Robert C. Shoemaker, of 45 years on July 20, 1996. She was an elementary school teacher for IPS schools #30, 44, and 94 for 37 years retiring in 1973. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, ISTA, and Downey Avenue Christian Church. She is survived by two nieces, Mary Alice Lewis and Sharon Ann Lewis; several cousins; and friend, Myrna K. Snyder. Funeral services will be at 1:30 pm Thursday, March 22, 2012 in the Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield, where friends may call on Thursday one hour prior to services. Burial, Maple Hill Cemetery, Plainfield. Memorial contributions may be made to Downey Ave. Christian Church.
