William G. "Wild Bill" Merritt Jr.

William G. "Wild Bill" Merritt Jr., 76, of Avon, passed away February 24, 2012. He was born November 11, 1935 to the late William G. Sr. and Muriel (Davis) Merritt in Avon, IN. He was a US Army veteran and was a member of the Plainfield Eagles Lodge #3207 and the Speedway Moose Lodge #500. He worked as a IBM operator for Conrail for 43 years retiring in 1996. He is survived by his son, Larry E. Merritt; a daughter, Pam K. Reed; a sister, Barbara Stauch; and three grandchildren, Cody and Jesse Reed and Meranda Bitner. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am Tuesday, February 28, 2012 in the Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield, where friends may call on Monday February 27 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. Burial, Maple Hill Cemetery, Plainfield. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
