Murle Gabriel Mitchell

Murle G. Mitchell, 87, of Belleville, passed away Decmeber 28, 2011. She was born March 6, 1924 to the late Willie Ed and Myrtle (Nickels) Lewis in Fairview, VA. On March 7, 1942 Murle married George T. Michell. They were married for 65 years before his passing in September 2, 2007. She is survived by her daughter Theresa Mitchell (Robert) Nagel of Millstadt, IL; two grandchildren, Matthew T. (Jaci) Nagel esq of St. Louis and Dr. Christine M. Nagel of Saskatoon, Saskchetwan, Canada; a sister, Jessie Ailene Young of Plainfield and a brother Isaac E. Lewis of Clayton. Her four sisters Irene Swan, Madge Lucille Lewis, Margaret Bernice Malicote and Jo Anne Unger and her brother Harmon Lewis Sr., preceded their loving sister in death. During her lifetime, Murle lived many places with her husband Thump (as he was called) during his time of military service before settling down in Belleville, IN. Murle worked at Kingan's in Indianapolis while Thump was away during the war. Later she worked at JC Penney's on the circle in downtown Indianapolis for 25 years retiring in 1982. Murle was affectionally know as the "Tomato Lady" in recent years as she helped her brother I.E. Lewis sell tomatos from the garden. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Saturday,December 31, 2011 in the Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield, where friends may call on Friday, December 30 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. Burial, Center Valley Cemetery, Belleville.
