Michael Wayne Hammond, 66, of Bloomington, peacefully passed away December 26, 2011 among family and friends. He was born August 3, 1945 to the late Newell Frances (Smitha) and Ray Wilson Hammond in Indianapolis. Mike loved the outdoors where he loved to fish and play baseball. An alumnus of Danville High School, he pursued a degree in education at Milligan College in TN where he played baseball. Mike taught science and coached baseball at Cascade High School and Danville Junior High School. In December 2010 he retired from Cook Medical. In addition to his loving companion Terre Funkhouser, Mike is survived by his son, Erik (Carrie); daughter, Terri Nickels; and twin sons, Brandon and Brent; step-daughter Georgeann (Mick) Griffin; two grandchildren, Brock and Madison; 2 step grandchildren, Shelby and Ryne Griffin; sisters, Darlene (I.E.) Lewis and Shari (Rex) Ward ; and two brothers, Jon and Gayle Hammond. Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm Thursday, December 29, 2011 in the Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, where friends may call on Thursday from 11:00 am until service time at 1:00 pm.
