Richard Lee Batchelor

Richard Lee Batchelor, 76, of Plainfield, passed away October 12, 2011. He was born March 9, 1935 to the late Bernard and Eva (McDermott) Batchelor in Washington, IN. He was a veteran of the US Army. He was a Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 394 and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He retired as a meat cutter after 37 years from Kroger in Plainfied, where he received Employee of the Year. Richard is survived by his wife, Clara G. (Spaulding) Batchelor; a son, William B. Batchelor; a daughter, Patricia (Nelson) Hamm; a brother, Robert Batchelor; a sister, Beverly Spaulding; and two grandchildren, Abbi and Michael Hamm. He was preceded in death by a son, Brother Stephan Gregory Batchelor. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 6:00 pm Sunday, October 16, 2011 in the Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield. He was a member of St. Susanna Catholic Church, Plainfield, where a Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am Monday, October 17, 2011. Graveside committal services will be at St. John Cemetery, Washington, IN at 2:00 pm. Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
