William David "Joe" Underwood

'William David "Joe" Underwood, 89, of Plainfield, passed away September 26, 2011. He was born April 2, 1922 to the late Clarence and Selona (Hendricks) Underwood in Hazel, KY. He was a US Army veteran of WWII. He worked at GM Allison for 28 years retiring as supervisor in 1980. He is survived by two sons, Joe (Mary), and James Michael (Marie) Underwood; a brother, Ralph Underwood; 2 sisters, Dorothy Perry and Selona Jackson; 3 granddaughters, Michaela Sisk, Brandy Sherman, and Robin Wilks; 5 great grandsons, and 1 great step-grandson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Underwood; brothers, Paul, Lexie, T.J., Stacy, Earl, Barkley and Prentice; sisters, Ila, Annie Laurie and Betty. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am Thursday, September 29, 2011 in the Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield, where friends may call on Wednesday, September 28 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. Entombment, Maple Hill Cemetery, Plainfield. The family wishes to thank Advocate Hospice, and the therapists, activity dept., caretakers, housekeeping and laundry staff at Brownsburg Meadows for the care and attention given to Joe Underwood.
