Lester Woodrow Bryant

Lester Woodrow Bryant, Avon, died July 8 in his home. Formerly of Marshall, IL and Indianapolis, he was born Aug 9th, 1918 in Petrolia, IL, the son of Henry and Maggie (Jordan) Bryant. He was a veteran of WWII, earning the rank of Master Sergeant with the 8th Air Force stationed in Mendlesham, England. He retired from Allison in 1981 after working there for 26 years as an engineering technician. Among the many projects he worked on was testing fuel tanks used in the Apollo mission to the moon. He loved to work with his hands creating works of art with wood and stained glass. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Margaret Taylor Bryant, sister Helen Bryant Phelps, son Alan Bryant and grandchildren Paul Bryant and Sarah Parsons. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his sons Michael (Karen) Bryant and Robert (Maggie) Bryant; daughter, Susan (Keith) Parsons; daughter-in-law Linda Bryant; grandchildren Matthew (Laura) Bryant, Abigail and Alex Bryant, Emily and Elizabeth Parsons, David (Jill) Palmer; niece Sheri (Paul) Phelps Kotch. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 PM with funeral services to follow at 2:00 PM at Avon United Methodist Church, 6850 E. US 36, on Monday, July 11. Burial will be at Maple Hill Cemetery, Plainfield, IN. Arrangements entrusted to Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to VFW Post 6128 at 636 E. Main St. Brownsburg, IN 46112, attention "The Path Home," an outreach program that helps local veterans and their families.
