Janet Lynn (Gordon) Walters, 44, of Danville, passed away April 15, 2011. She was born December 17, 1966 in Martinsville, IN. She was a 1985 graduate of Martinsville High School, and graduated from Indiana State University School of Nursing, and Indiana University School of Social Work in Indianapolis where she graduated with honors and gave the commencement speech. Janet was a member of the Plainfield Christian Church, serving in Youth and Children's Ministry, Girl's School and Women's Prison Ministries, The Grandparents Program, and many other untitled roles and responsibilities. She had previously been a member of the First Christian Church of Martinsville. Janet worked from the mission field in the Yucatan Peninsula in the jungles of Mexico, to the streets of Indianapolis with Wheeler Missions, and the homeless mentally ill. She was involved in several professional organizations as a Registered Nurse and Licensed Social Worker. She had worked under her first married name of Janet Steimel at Martinsville Hospital, St. Francis and Methodist Hospitals, and Marion County Center Township Trustee as a social worker providing benefits to the homeless mentally ill. Janet was known for her infectious smile, her love for everyone of God's creations, and despite her own physical pain, she strived everyday to serve her Lord and others with a cheerful happy heart. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. She taught us all to stop and smell the roses, and to see the beauty of creation and appreciate it all around us. She is now with her Savior in Paradise. "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints." Psalm 116:15. She is survived by her husband, Gary A. Walters; two daughters, Makayla Cramer, and April (Dameion) Brownlee; a son, Nathaniel Walters; her parents, David Gordon and Bettie (Smith) Johnston; and four grandchildren, Zion, Keenan, V'Sean, and Lei-aysia Brownlee. She was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Gordon. Memorial services will be at the Plainfield Christian Church, 800 Dan Jones Road on Saturday May 7, 2011 at 11:00 am and where friends may call on Friday May 6 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church. Contributions may be made to Riley Hospital for Children.
