Russell B. Long

Russell B. Long, 84, of Plainfield passed away April 10, 2011. He was born in Avon on November 6, 1926 to the late John and Georgia Long. He was a WW II US Navy veteran. He retired from Allison Transmission in 1989 after 40 years as a contract administrator. Russ was a graduate of Indiana University. His memberships include Plainfield Christian Church, American Legion and Plainfield Elks Club #2186 where he was a charter member. Funeral services will be Thursday, April 14, at 10:30 am in Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, where friends may call on Wednesday, April 13, from 3:00-8:00 pm. Entombment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. He was preceded in death by siblings, Ralph, Bud, Nip, Bill, Roy, Richard Long and Ruth Fountain. Survivors include his wife, Marjorie L. (Bayliff) Long; daughter, Becky VanWanzeele; sons, Rick and Randy Long; brothers, Raymond, Rex, Roger and Roland Long; sisters, Lois Maxwell, Rosemary and Rita; 7 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Ronald McDonald House or Indiana Salvation Army.
