Robert L. Turner, 90, of Avon, passed away January 31, 2011. He was born October 18, 1920 to the late Luther and Mignonette Turner in Chicago, IL. He attended Normal College in Chicago for two years. He was a US Army Air Corps veteran of WWII. During WWII Robert flew B24s and served as a Flying Officer and Instructor and received certificates for Flight Instructor, Navigator and Bombadier Instructor. He was honorably discharged as a Lt. Captain.
Robert moved to Indianapolis in the 1940's. He worked for the H. Lieber Co as office manager in the Engineering Supply and Reprographic Departments. He also served as Assistant Secretary of the Board of Directors. He retired in 1995. His memberships include the US Power Squadron, Society of Reproduction Engineers, The Cataract Yacht Club where he served as Commodore twice, served as a Hendricks County Special Deputy, and member of the and past president of the White Lick Homeowners Association. Robert is survived by his wife, Dorothy L. (Hoffman) Turner; son, Scott L. (Jennifer) Turner; daughter, Susan A. (Larry) Nielsen; 3 grandchildren, David Roessler, Whitney Nielsen and Marc (Dawn) Turner; and 2 great grandchildren, McKenzie and Jacob Turner. He was preceded in death by a son, Mark Turner and a sister Bonnie Locken. A Memorial Gathering will be held at the Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield on Sunday, February 6, 2011 from 12 noon until 2:00 pm. A private burial with military honors will be held at Maple Hill Cemetery, Plainfield.
